Let’s be honest. Women in leading roles who struggle with overwhelm often get on with it in silence, rather than reach out for support. It doesn’t matter whether you are a woman who runs a business, leads a project or a group.
It’s just not cool to say-Hey, I’m having a hard time here…
WHEN THINGS DON’T GO AS PLANNED
Recently, I had to close a business I was passionate about and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Feelings of shame, failure, time & money lost were all things going through my head. Then, I was reminded of all the people who were supported and inspired by what I had created.
LOOK AT THINGS DIFFERENTLY
I began to look at things differently. And I came across this quote: Failure is never having tried. Today, I feel proud of my past achievements and am on a new adventure to support other women leaders. Every experience we have can be a learning if we let it be and boy, did I learn a lot these past 5 years.
BEING A LEADER IS HARD WORK
Let’s be real-leading a business or Project is a lonely, tough place and can be exhausting at times. For women leaders it appears to be an even more challenging experience for reasons too many to mention here.
You may exercise, listen to empowering podcasts or meet a friend for lunch when you can. You may even be part of an Empowering mastermind group, attend seminars or get on an odd weekend trip away. But is it enough to support your Well-being? Do you feel there should be more?
FIND OTHER INSPIRING WOMEN LEADERS
I can count on one hand the women I rely on when overwhelm gets on top of me. They are 3 amazingly skilled women in their chosen fields, let me tell you! And then it came to me light a light bulb moment.. These 3 women will likely have at least 3 women they go as their ‘sounding board’ and the same for their trusted contacts and so on.
MY NEXT ADVENTURE
My next adventure involves building a community of women leaders. A place to support one another. To inspire one another. To encourage, celebrate, to lift each other up where we are focused on supporting our wellbeing, both personally and professionally.
I will forever remember and be grateful to the female leaders who helped me, lifted me up, guide me in the right direction when I needed that extra support.
Remember that it is the PERSON who supports you who you will remember, not the business or project they were managing… Who can you inspire and support today?
